Watsky x Infinity: Film Premiere Extravaganza / The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles
929 S Broadway
Los Angeles, CA 90015, United States
On December 12th, WeTransfer is presenting a one-of-a-kind evening of film, music and poetry at The Theatre at Ace Hotel. The night marks the culmination of a two-year project to create a video for each of the 18 songs on rapper & poet Watsky's 2016 album 'x Infinity.' The world premiere screening will be accompanied by a simultaneous live performance of the album by Watsky and his band Creme Fraiche, and the evening will also feature a performance of original hip-hop musical Dante by Get Lit’s Literati Fellows. All proceeds benefit Get Lit – Words Ignite, an organization that empowers youth voice through various forms of storytelling.
Damian Bradfield, President of WeTransfer said: “Since 2009 WeTransfer has been a proud supporter of the arts. This year we have supported two Mercury Prize nominees; artist Sampha and poet Kate Tempest. Without organizations such as Ge Lit, spoken word and poetry wouldn’t be on the radar of today’s youth and the likes of Kate Tempest and Watsky would have remained works of fiction.”
George Watsky is a writer and performer from San Francisco. A product of the Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam, he won the event in 2006, his Bay Area team advancing to win the Brave New Voices National Slam at the Apollo Theater. Watsky has appeared on HBO Def Poetry, Ellen, NPR, PBS, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton Mixtape, toured extensively with his live band, and accumulated over 200 million YouTube views. In 2016 his new album x Infinity reached #4 on the Billboard rap albums chart, and his debut essay collection, How To Ruin Everything (Plume/Penguin/Random-House), was a New York Times bestseller.
